welcome to hope child care program

Who we are

Hope Child Care Program is a community based organization which was started to improve the lives of orphans whose parents died of AIDS and are left abandoned in many communities in the Rakai District of Southern Uganda.

Our Vision & mission

Taking God’s word and love to the world. “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you invited me in; naked, and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me.” Matthew 25:35-36.

what drives us

These words from Jesus drive the mission of Hope Child Care Program. Our mission is to show the Love of our Lord Jesus Christ to those in great need. In the Rakai District, those in needs too often refer to a child. Many children have lost one or both parents to AIDS. Children have no protection or security. We put the words above in action through our care and support to the AIDS orphans of Bulanga Village in Rakai District.

what we are doing

To accomplish this, we provide clothing, food, shelter, medical care, education and whatever is needed. It is our dream and desires to allow the children to grow up in protected, safe and secure environment where they feel the love of God through those around them.
Discipleship is done for children to grow up on a solid Christian foundation.
Once the burden of these children is lifted, they will be able to once again laugh and enjoy their childhood the way God intended.

Homes of Hope Project

with support from our partners, we build homes for those in great need of accomodation by building them new low cost houses..

Mary
Low Cost Houses

This project aims at improving the lives of the villagers by improving their standard of living in terms of housing. We build low cost houses for as low as $3,000 per house.
An individual can donate to construct a house for a needy family. Most of the families that receive those houses are orphan headed homes.
Insert is their former old house and the new house we built for them.

Organic Farming - Agricultural Activities

HCCP started an organic farming demonstration site where peasants will come and learn how to use organic fertilizers to grow crops that can produce a high yield. This project will improve their production and in turn their incomes. Children work with teachers and support staff to plant tomatoes, carrots, egg plants and other crops that are needed in daily lives. This teaches our children agriculture skills as well as team work.

Tracy
Brighteen Workshop

Every fifteen days HCCP gathers teenagers from Bright Hope School and the community, from 13 to 19 years old, and discuss issues related to teenager, HIV prevention and peer pressure. Brighteen Workshop is a time to share life experiences, challenges and dreams of those who are in a very sensitive period of life. The topics discussed are suggested by the teenagers.
Our volunteers and teachers guide them basing on bible principles. We believe that regular and open discussions are keys to help them grow as responsible and well behaved children.

Women's Empowerment and Family affairs

Women bear the burden of bringing up children as well as other family needs in the villages we are working in. In most cases, men resort to drinking alcohol. This leaves their wives with a big burden of taking care of the family.
In order to empower them, we formed women’s groups in the villages we are working in. Those groups make crafts such as sandals, necklaces (beads) mats, baskets and drums which they sell in urban areas and support their families. This has helped them earn money and invest them in farming, rearing animals and poultry. Far right is one of the women's group dancing.

Family Affairs is another concern from our Organization. We believe that a solid family basis contributes directly to a healthy community development. Thus, groups of couples are formed and an open dialogue related to the challenges of the marriage is made in order to stimulate the mutual respect, rights and cooperation.

Julia
Community Based HealthCare

Our Clinic offers treatment to the children and community members. Our nurses go in outreaches and teach proper hygiene, nutrition, as well as proper treatment on different diseases. Our aims are to reduce infant mortality rate through growth monitoring, immunization and reducing malnutrition. Special education and sensitization about the effects of HIV/AIDS is taught to community members. We do this through organized efforts of our church choir and the school choir.
We perform plays, songs and distribute literature during performances to educate the audiences on the far-reaching effects AIDS has had on them, their family structure and the community. Educating and informing the public of the effects of HIV and AIDS are the keys to combating the challenges facing many communities disproportionately affected by this disease. Provision of clean water

We also improve water supply and sanitation to reduce gastro intestinal diseases. We organize villagers to clean the ponds, provide water treatment chemicals as well as drilling deep water sources. However we still have a big challenge on this issue because many of the water sources are still in a very bad situation.
